Chamonix has been known for many years as the mountaineering and skiing capital of France.   The resort lies at the foot of Mont Blanc, which at 4807 metres, is one of the highest peaks in Europe.

People have been skiing in the snowfields of Chamonix since the late 19th Century and the remains of the ski jump built for the first winter Olympic games in 1924 can still be seen.

Today Chamonix incorporates tradition and a cosmopolitan atmosphere with a wide range of attractions and facilities.

There are modern shops, a cinema, casino, bars and nightclubs.   Chamonix also boasts an extensive sports centre with squash courts, an open air and indoor swimming pool, facilities for tennis, basketball and judo, a large artificial ice rink and a challenging climbing wall.
